The Bahamas Environment, Science and Technology Commission

The Bahamas Environment, Science & Technology Commission also known as the BEST Commission was established in 1994. The BEST Comission manages the implementation of multilateral environment agreements and review environmental impact assessments and environmental management plans for development projects within The Bahamas.

BEST is the representative agency for The Bahamas on the following international conventions:

  • Convention on Biological Diversity
  • Cartagena Protocol on Biosafety
  • The Ramsar Convention on Wetlands
  • United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change
  • Stockholm Convention on Persistent Organic Pollutants
  • Basel Convention on the Control of Transboundary Movements of Hazardous Wastes and their Disposal
